Timber + Steel + NOSW lodged by us
Rotten pole? Replaced.
A private power pole is yours to maintain, and ours to replace. New pole in, service transferred, power back on, with every network approval handled by us.

When a private pole needs replacing
A private power pole carries the service mains from the network to your property, and because it stands on your land, it belongs to you, not the network. Keeping it up to standard is the owner's job.
- Rust eating the base of a steel pole
- Softness or visible rot in a timber pole
- A lean that was not there before
- Crossarms damaged, deteriorating or no longer compliant
- UV damage to the service mains the pole carries
- A defect notice from Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy naming the pole
Already holding a defect notice? Send every page of it through our defect notice rectification service and we clear the whole thing, pole and paperwork.
How a pole replacement runs
01
Send us photos of the pole. Email connect@thorntek.com.au or use the contact page. You get a fixed quote.
02
We apply for the job number from your network. Ausgrid or Endeavour, we are accredited to both.
03
Once approved: new pole in, service transferred, power back on. Most single pole replacements are completed in a day.
04
We submit the Notice of Service Work (NOSW) to the supply authority on completion. Done.
No network isolation, no notice of arrangement. A private pole replacement does not need them. The job number and the NOSW are the only paperwork, and both are ours to handle.
Replacements and new installs
We replace rusted steel and rotten timber private poles, renew crossarms that are damaged or no longer comply, and transfer the service mains across to the new pole. If the span itself is the problem, like a tired point of attachment or UV damaged mains, that is overhead services work, and we do that too.
Need a new connection point rather than a replacement? We supply and install new private poles for long driveways, rear buildings and acreage frontages. And if you would rather lose the pole altogether, an underground connection replaces the overhead span for good.
Storm damaged poles get prioritised. Call 1300 58 58 16.

Photos first, fixed quote next
Email photos of the pole (the full pole, the base, and where the service attaches) to connect@thorntek.com.au, or upload them through the contact page with your property details.
We do a desktop assessment from the photos, come out for a free site visit if the job needs one, then give you a fixed quote. Nobody gets an estimate that grows.

Common questions
How much does it cost to replace a private power pole?
It depends on the pole: height, access, timber versus steel, and whether the crossarm and the service it carries need replacing at the same time. We give you a fixed quote from photos and your details. Send them through the contact page.
Who is responsible for the power pole on my property?
A private power pole is owned and maintained by the property owner. The network's responsibility ends at their own poles. That includes the crossarm and the service span your pole carries. If yours is rusted, leaning or flagged on a notice, send us photos through the contact page.
How long does it take to replace a private power pole?
Most single pole replacements are completed in a day: new pole in, service transferred, power back on, and no network isolation is required. Emergency replacements after storm or damage get prioritised. We confirm the timing in your fixed quote, so send your photos through.
How do I know if my power pole is rotten or needs replacing?
Rust at the base of steel poles, softness or visible rot in timber, a lean that was not there before, or a deteriorating crossarm are the usual signs, and the networks inspect private poles and issue defect notices when they are not up to standard. Send us a photo of the pole and its base and we will tell you where it stands.
I got a defect notice from Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy about my pole. What do I do?
Send it to us and we handle the whole process: we apply for a job number from the network, complete the replacement once it is approved, then submit the Notice of Service Work (NOSW) to the supply authority to have the defect cleared. Email every page of the notice to connect@thorntek.com.au and we will take it from there.
Who can legally replace a private power pole?
A Level 2 ASP. The pole carries live service mains, so the work is restricted to accredited providers, not general electricians or fencing contractors. Thorntek holds ASP 4869 with both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy and replaces private poles across Sydney. Get in touch and we will quote yours.
