Most of it is council and head contractor work, delivered inside a bigger park or facility upgrade. We build to the design issued with the job. Our part is getting it in the ground, connected and switched on.

The supply is the part most contractors subcontract
A lighting job is only half electrical. The other half is getting adequate supply to a site that was never built for it, which means a new service, a bigger board and metering, and network approvals to go with it.
Thorntek is a Level 2 ASP with both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy across all four classes. The same crew doing the lighting does the supply, the metering and the network paperwork. One contractor, one program, nobody waiting on anybody else.

Boards that survive outside
Sports and park boards live outdoors, get hosed, get sun, and get left alone for years. We build them for that. Custom 316 stainless steel weatherproof enclosures where the site warrants it, sized for what is being added now and what gets added later.

Common questions
Do you do sports lighting for councils?
Yes. Most of our sports lighting is council and head contractor work, delivered as part of a park or facility upgrade. We build to the design issued with the job and take it from the footings through to energising. Send us the drawings and scope and we will price it.
What is involved in a floodlighting install?
Footings and poles, underground conduit and cabling back to the board, the switchboard itself, then the luminaires, aiming and commissioning. On a live site it also means staging the work around the ground still being used. We quote the lot as one package.
How high are the poles?
It depends on the code the ground is being lit to and what the issued design calls for. We have installed six 12 metre floodlight poles over netball courts and 6 metre poles through a public park in the same year. The design sets the height, we install to it.
Do you supply the switchboards as well?
Yes. Sports and park boards live outside and get treated accordingly. We have built custom 316 stainless steel weatherproof boards for exactly this reason, with the metering and the network connection handled under our own ASP accreditation.
Can you work around the season?
That is normally the constraint. Grounds are booked, seasons run, and the work has to fit between them. Tell us the window you have and we will build the program around it rather than the other way round.
Do you handle the power supply to the site as well?
Yes, and that is the part most electrical contractors have to subcontract. We are a Level 2 ASP with both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so the supply, the metering and the network approvals are all done by the same crew doing the lighting.
