On the day: new enclosure, RCBO protection on every circuit, undersized consumer mains upgraded, and a full test before supply is restored.

We issue the Certificate of Compliance (CCEW) and lodge every network notification.
Do not open the internal panel. The open door photo is all we need to price the job.

How long it takes
Residential upgrades are completed in a day. Supply is off for part of the day and restored before we leave. Commercial changeovers are a planned shutdown completed in a day, with larger supplies kept live on temporary generation.

How much does a switchboard upgrade cost in Sydney?
Price depends on the board size, the number of circuits and whether the consumer mains need upgrading. You receive a fixed quote from photos of the inside of your meter box, and the figure on the quote is the figure on the invoice.
How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?
Ceramic fuses, no safety switches, tripping circuits, flickering lights or a letter naming the board. Send a photo of the inside of the meter box, door open, through our contact page and we will advise.
Are old ceramic fuse boxes dangerous?
Older fuse boards have none of the RCD (safety switch) protection current standards require, and aged fuses and wiring present a shock and fire risk. Send a photo of the inside of your meter box through the contact page for an assessment.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
Most residential upgrades, single phase or 3 phase, are completed in a day with supply restored before we leave. Commercial changeovers are a planned one day shutdown around your operating hours, with larger supplies kept live on a backup generator.
Do I need to upgrade my switchboard for solar panels?
Often, yes: the inverter needs its own protection, and many older boards have no room or no longer comply. We upgrade the board and handle the metering, so send photos of the inside of your meter box before the solar is installed.
Do I need a Level 2 electrician for a switchboard upgrade in NSW?
A licensed electrician can replace the board, but work on the consumer mains, service or metering is Level 2 ASP work. Thorntek holds ASP 4869 with both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, so one contractor completes the whole job.
