Do you need three phase?
Single phase runs most homes fine, until the big loads start arriving. Three phase brings three supply lines into the property instead of one, so everything runs without working the supply at its limit.
The usual reasons to upgrade:

Commercial changeovers run as a planned shutdown executed in a day. On the bigger, more involved supplies we keep the site live on a backup generator while the work happens.

How much does it cost to upgrade from single phase to three phase power?
Every upgrade is different. Overhead or underground service, the size of the new switchboard and whether the consumer mains need replacing all move the price. Do I need three phase power for my house?
If you are adding an EV charger, ducted air conditioning, a pool, a large solar system or workshop machinery, three phase gives you the capacity to run it all without working the supply at its limit. Plenty of houses never need it. Tell us what you are planning and we will give you a straight answer.
How do I know if my house has single phase or three phase power?
Look at your main switch in the meter box: a single pole switch means single phase, three linked poles means three phase. Your electricity bill or meter can also tell you. If you are not sure, open the meter box door, photograph the inside and send it through the contact page. We will confirm it.
Do I need three phase power for an EV charger?
No. A 7kW single phase charger fully recharges most EVs overnight. Three phase gets you faster charging and makes sense if you have two EVs or other big loads coming. We install both and can upgrade your supply if you want the faster option, so tell us about your car and your plans.
How long does a three phase upgrade take, and will my power be off?
A residential upgrade including the new switchboard is typically completed in a day, and we complete the meter exchange the same day on behalf of your retailer, so there is no waiting on the network. Commercial upgrades run as a planned one day shutdown, and larger supplies can be kept live on a generator. Your quote confirms the plan for your site.
