Metering accredited + Ausgrid + Endeavour Energy
New meter? Same day.
Thorntek is accredited to exchange and upgrade electricity meters on behalf of retailers. Completed the same day as the works, with the retailer coordination handled by us.
The network doesn't swap meters. We do
When an upgrade needs a new meter, the network does not send anyone. Meters are exchanged by an ASP accredited for metering, on behalf of your electricity retailer, and Thorntek holds that accreditation with both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy.
So when your three phase upgrade or switchboard upgrade needs a meter exchange, we complete it the same day as the works. No separate visit, no waiting on anyone else.
How the meter exchange runs
01
Your job is quoted and booked. The meter exchange is part of it, not an extra visit.
02
We coordinate the exchange directly with your electricity retailer.
03
The meter is exchanged the same day as the works and the job is closed out.
One crew, one visit, retailer sorted. You don't chase anyone.
CT metering for commercial sites
Larger commercial supplies are metered through current transformers (CTs) rather than directly through the meter. We install main switchboards with provisions for CT metering, sized for the supply from day one.
It is part of the same Level 2 scope: board, supply and metering provisions in one job.

Common questions
How much does it cost to install or upgrade an electricity meter?
It depends on the meter and what is driving the change. A single phase exchange is a different job to CT metering on a 200 amp commercial supply. Meter work is usually part of a bigger job for us, and it is all priced in one fixed quote. Send your details through the contact page.
How do I get a new or smart meter installed, and who pays?
Meter exchanges are arranged through your electricity retailer. When the meter work is part of an electrical job, like a three phase upgrade, solar or a new switchboard, we are accredited to complete the exchange on behalf of your retailer the same day, priced into your fixed quote. Tell us what you are doing and we will sort the meter with the rest of it.
Who can install or replace an electricity meter in NSW?
Meters sit on the service side of your connection, so installing or exchanging one is restricted to accredited installers. Thorntek is accredited to exchange and upgrade meters on behalf of the retailers and holds Level 2 ASP 4869 across metering on both Ausgrid and Endeavour networks. Get in touch and we will handle it.
How long does an electricity meter exchange take?
The exchange itself is quick. Your power is only off briefly while the swap happens, and when it is part of a bigger job like a three phase upgrade we complete it the same day, not weeks later through the network. We confirm the timing in your quote, so send your details through.
What is CT metering and when is it required?
CT (current transformer) metering measures large supplies through transformers instead of running the full current through the meter, and it is required once a supply exceeds the limit for direct connection, typically larger three phase commercial supplies. We install CT metering and build switchboards with CT provisions for 200 amp and greater connections. Planning a big supply? Talk to us early.
Can I get a separate electricity meter for a granny flat?
Yes. A granny flat can be separately metered so the occupant pays their own usage, which usually involves switchboard work and coordination with your retailer, all of which we handle. Send your details through the contact page and we will set it up properly.
