Defect notice? Cleared.

Old switchboard that no longer complies, listed on a network defect notice

What gets a defect notice

Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy issue electrical defect notices across Sydney for problems on the service side of your connection. The usual suspects:

  • Aged or undersized service mains or consumer mains
  • A damaged point of attachment
  • A private pole that's damaged, rusted or deteriorating
  • Crossarms on private poles that are damaged or no longer comply
  • UV damage to overhead service mains
  • Vegetation too close to the service line
  • A switchboard that no longer complies

How we clear your defect

01

Send the notice

You send us the notice. Every page of it.

02

Fixed quote

We assess the works and give you a fixed quote.

03

We do the work

Once approved, we schedule and complete the rectification.

04

Defect cleared

We submit the Notice of Service Work (NOSW) to the supply authority and your defect is cleared.

Miss the deadline on the notice and the supply authority can disconnect your power until the defect is fixed. Send it over early and it never gets close.

Send every page of the notice

The detail is usually on page two. That's where the network lists what needs fixing and includes their photos of it. A photo or PDF of every page is all we need. No photos of your switchboard required.

Email it to connect@thorntek.com.au or upload it through the contact page and we'll take it from there.

Common questions

How long do I have to clear a defect notice?

The deadline is printed on the notice and depends on the category the network has given it. Forward the notice to us and we confirm your window in writing, then book the work to land inside it.

Can any electrician clear an Ausgrid or Endeavour defect notice?

Not all licensed electricians are accredited to carry out Level 2 ASP work or complete the network compliance paperwork. Thorntek holds ASP 4869 across overhead, underground and metering, so we can complete the entire job from start to finish.

What does it cost to clear a defect notice?

It depends entirely on what the notice lists. A point of attachment repair is a different job to replacing service mains. Send us the whole notice and we come back with a fixed quote for the works listed.

What is an electrical defect notice?

A defect notice is a formal notice from Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy telling you something on the service side of your connection no longer meets the NSW Service and Installation Rules, with a deadline to fix it. That could be your service mains, point of attachment, private pole or switchboard. Send us every page of the notice and we will take it from there.

What happens if I ignore the notice?

If the defect is not rectified inside the timeframe on the notice, the supply authority can disconnect your power until it is fixed. Send the notice over and we will keep you well clear of that.

How do I know if my address is Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy?

Check your electricity bill. Your distributor is named separately from your retailer. Ausgrid covers the CBD, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, North Shore and Northern Beaches; Endeavour covers Western and South Western Sydney, the Hills, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains. Either way we are accredited to both, so it does not change who you call.
