Thorntek Pty Ltd (ABN 26 166 930 374, trading as Thorntek Electrical, “Thorntek”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. What we collect
When you contact us through this website, by phone, by email, or by engaging us for work, we may collect the following personal information about you:
- Name and title
- Phone number
- Email address
- Suburb, supply address or job address
- The content of any enquiry or message you send us
- Photos you send us of a switchboard, meter box, service line or defect notice
- Information relevant to the work, including site details, scope, supply requirements and access
If you submit a Metering Application through this site, we additionally collect:
- Property details (Lot No, DP No, Unit No, full street address, NMI, life support dependency)
- Existing account and retailer details
- ABN and company name (if a business)
- Identification document type (Driver’s Licence, Passport, Medicare), ID number, state of issue
- Date of birth
- Mailing address (if different)
This information is needed to lodge the metering application with your network distributor (Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy) on your behalf. It is treated as sensitive information under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, held in our secure Microsoft 365 business systems, used only for the purpose you provided it, disclosed only to the network distributor and any contractor or supplier reasonably required to complete the work, and retained only for as long as required by us, our regulators or the network. This information is delivered directly to our secure mailbox and is not stored on this website or in any online database. The website itself keeps no copy of your identification details.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.
2. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you when you:
- Submit a form on this website (including the free switchboard photo audit)
- Call us on 1300 58 58 16
- Email us at connect@thorntek.com.au
- Engage Thorntek to perform electrical work
- Communicate with us through social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
3. Why we collect it
We collect personal information so we can:
- Respond to your enquiry and provide a quote
- Schedule, perform and invoice electrical work
- Meet our legal, regulatory and network obligations (including notices to Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and NSW Fair Trading)
- Communicate with you about a job in progress
- Improve our service and respond to feedback
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We disclose personal information only where reasonably necessary to deliver the service you have asked for, or where we are required by law. That includes:
- The distribution network service provider for your address (Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy) when network connection or metering work is required
- NSW Fair Trading and other regulators for compliance and certification purposes
- Subcontractors and trusted suppliers engaged to complete a specific job, under confidentiality
- Our accountants, insurers and professional advisers where reasonably required
- Where required or authorised by law
We do not disclose personal information overseas in the normal course of business. Our website is hosted on Cloudflare, which may store standard server log data in its global network. Our email is hosted on Microsoft 365 (Australia data residency).
5. How we store and protect it
Personal information is stored in our business systems (Microsoft 365 email and job management software). We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure. Access to systems is restricted to authorised people and protected by passwords and multifactor authentication.
6. Cookies and analytics
This website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site: pages viewed, approximate location and device type. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes this usage data on our behalf; it does not identify you personally to us.
When we run advertising campaigns we may also use advertising and remarketing tools such as the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Pixel and Google Ads tags, which set cookies to measure ad performance and show relevant ads. The site also loads typefaces from Google Fonts, which may set technical cookies necessary for the font service to operate.
You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser tool for opting out, or block or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time.
7. Email marketing and the Spam Act 2003
Our forms include an optional tickbox to opt in. If you tick it, you give us express consent to email you occasional Thorntek updates on projects, NSW electrical regulations, and industry insights. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth):
- We only email you if you have given express consent (you ticked the box) or where you have an existing relationship with Thorntek that infers consent
- Every marketing email identifies Thorntek as the sender with our ABN, phone, email and website
- Every marketing email contains a working unsubscribe link. One click and you are off the list
- Unsubscribe requests are honoured immediately and held on a suppression list so you are not added back by mistake
- We do not buy, sell or trade email lists
- We do not use your enquiry details for marketing unless you specifically opt in
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email, or by emailing connect@thorntek.com.au.
8. Access and correction
You have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if you believe it is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Send your request to connect@thorntek.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable time, normally within 30 days.
9. How to make a complaint
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, please contact us in the first instance at connect@thorntek.com.au or on 1300 58 58 16. We will investigate and respond within a reasonable time.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The version date above will change to reflect the most recent update. Material changes will be highlighted on the site.
